One way to deal with this is to write your matrices with 0's and 1's, and
then do a *cast* as in the example below
gap> [[1,0],[0,1]] * One(GF(2));
[ [ Z(2)^0, 0*Z(2) ], [ 0*Z(2), Z(2)^0 ] ]
