maybe the following is faster (and does not need the sonata package):

I:=G; #G is a group
for H in List(ConjugacyClassesSubgroups(G),Representative) do
     I:=Intersection(I,Normalizer(G,DerivedSubgroup(H)));
od;
I:=Core(G,I);
