Yes. You can get the group from the family:
gap> f:=FreeGroup(2);
<free group on the generators [ f1, f2 ]>
gap> a:=f.1;
f1
gap> FamilyObj(a)!.freeGroup;
<free group on the generators [ f1, f2 ]>
