This is to announce the availability of the first upgrade for GAP 3.4.
This upgrade brings version 3 release 4 patchlevel 0 (V3R4P0) to version
3 release 4 patchlevel 1 (V3R4P1). The priority of this upgrade is low.

This upgrade adds the documentation for 'MaximalSubgroups',
'FrattiniSubgroup', 'SystemNormalizer', for the Transitive Groups
Library, and for Algebraic Extensions of Fields to the manual. The
functions were always there, but not documented.

This upgrade fixes various small problems in the library, such as the bug
in 'LowIndexSubgroupsFpGroup', which forgot to add the subgroup
generators.

This upgrade adds the character table of the 8th maximal subgroup in HN
to the library of character tables.

This upgrade fixes the ``recognition'' of groups the size of which is a
product of at most three primes and provides the appropriate addition to
the manual.

This upgrade fixes a few problems related to the installation of the
share packages ANU-Sq and MeatAxe.

This upgrade does *not* change the kernel, i.e., you do not have to
recompile. This also means that those problems that were in the kernel,
i.e., not being able to apply 'String' to an abstract word, are not
addressed by this upgrade. This will be left to the next upgrade.

The upgrade is available as file 'upg3r4p1.dif.gz' on the 'ftp' server
'ftp.math.rwth-aachen.de'. It should be available on the other 'ftp'
servers soon. This time I do not send out this upgrade as e-mail, it is
simply too large.

First unpack the upgrade with 'gunzip upg3r4p1.dif.gz'. Then read the
instructions of the unpacked file 'upg3r4p1.dif', which contains
instructions how to apply this upgrade.
