I write to pose the question --
Is it appropriate to establish two GAP forums?
Should we have
-- one to deal with mathematical queries, uses of
GAP to solve particular problems, bug reports, etc.
-- one to deal with machine specific items such as porting,
compiliation, performance of standard tests, distribution
of executables, etc.
The amount of correspondence generated by the GAP forum
has grown significantly over the past few months;
much of it seems to be of the second type and I'm one
of those who is primarily interested in the first.
I realise that on occasion it will be difficult
to determine the appropriate forum for a posting --
in such circumstances, I'm sure we will not object
to people posting to both groups -- however, most
recent postings seem to pose no difficulty in this respect.
As a regular user of GAP, I think the forum serves a very
useful role and it is in that vein that I raise this query.
I'm interested in other subscriber opinions on this matter.
