^ Subject: Live CDROM with GAP 4 based on Knoppix and Debian

Hello GAP forum,

The GAP debian packages has been included in the Quantian
live CDROM for PC, see:

<http://dirk.eddelbuettel.com/quantian.html>

This is based on Knoppix and has a lot of mathematical software
like GAP, PARI/GP, and Maxima. It is made by Debian developer
Dirk Eddelbuettel.

This is a free CD-ROM that let you try Debian GNU/Linux on you computer
without installation by running directly from the CD-ROM drive. You
just need to boot the CD-ROM. The drawback is that it is much slower
to start.

This can be useful to make a demonstration of GAP when you don't have
time to install GAP on a computer.

The release 0.4 contains the core GAP system, the groups libraries and
the character tables library (which is now available in Debian/unstable
in the package gap-character-tables).

That still let a lot of GAP missing, but the goal was to have a lot of
different mathematical software. A complete GAP system with all
packages would nearly fill the CD-ROM.

Enjoy,
Bill.
