Dear GAP-forum,

(Apologies if you got this twice. There seemed to have been some problem
with the email.)

Is there a way in GAP to compute the Galois group of a general polynomial
over the rationals Q ?

There is a function `Galois' in GAP3 which has not yet been ported to GAP4.
This works for polynomials of degree up to 15.

(If you would need this functionality also in GAP4, please let me know
(hulpke@math.colostate.edu) -- if there is request for it, we'll increase
its priority for conversion to GAP4).

Best regards,
