I'm trying to run GAP on a 486 (I got the .exe file); in order to have
the new upgrading, I suppose that it's necessary to ftp the .exe
again.

The executables on "samson.math.rwth-aachen.de" are still the old
Patchlevel 0 versions. We will try to update the executables as soon
as possible, but it will take a few more days. However, if you have
GCC 2.3.? installed on your PC, you can apply "upg3r2p1.dif.Z" to the
source and recompile the kernel.

Is there something else to do?

All you need is a running compress, patch program, and
"upg3r2p1.dif.Z". Instruction on how to apply the patch are giving at
the beginning of this files.

best wishes
